Don grew up in Listowel where he currently resides with his family. He graduated from Conestoga College in 1982 with a diploma in Business Administration Accounting.

 After graduation, he pursued a career in furniture sales for over 20 years and was the furniture store manager for 4 years. He then transitioned into the financial sector as a mortgage agent. In October 2013 Don joined Ward & Uptigrove as Junior Accountant in the Business division. 

He is an avid sports fan and was the president of the Listowel Jr. B Cyclones for 13 years. He also enjoys playing hockey, golf, and spends a lot of time cycling.
