We are currently seeking a
Health & Safety Specialist to promote a safe, positive and productive work environment through coordination of various health and safety activities. Based in Elmira, Ontario, this role works closely with directors, managers, supervisors, crew leaders and employees to provide resolutions and ensure profitable business operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert health and safety advice and guidance, including legislative compliance
- Lead and coordinate health and safety program and training
- Conduct in-house training as applicable and source and schedule external training providers
- Occasional travel to work sites for incidents and investigations
- Liaise with various government officials for visits, investigations, and orders, as required
- Collaborate with crew leaders and their teams to implement practical solutions for safe and productive work
- Create healthy and safe return to work plans, liaising with supervisors, employees and WSIB
- Support Joint Health and Safety Committee activities through advice and guidance
- Create and maintain health and safety policies, programs, and procedures
- Maintain training records and perform related administrative duties
- Continuous professional development to stay current with legislative requirements and industry standards
What you bring
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, or an equivalent combination of work experience and on-the-job training
- Minimum 2 years’ related H&S work experience in either manufacturing or construction
- Working knowledge of OH&S legislation as applicable to manufacturing industry in Ontario
- JHSC Certification for construction, or a willingness to obtain immediately
- Train the Trainer certification, or willingness to obtain
- Ability to objectively assess risk, think critically, and implement reasonable risk mitigation strategies
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and relationships with management and employees
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to construction sites throughout Ontario
- Familiarity with construction concepts and agriculture considered an asset
